Charging Carts

The smarter way to charge, store, and secure your devices. From laptops and iPads to tablets and Chromebooks, our charging carts deliver uninterrupted power, reliable security, and the organization your workspace demands.

The Basics

What is a charging cart?

A charging cart—also called a laptop charging cart, Chromebook charging cart, tablet charging cart, or mobile device charging cart is a secure, mobile storage solution designed to store, organize, and simultaneously charge multiple devices from a single wall outlet.

Used in education, healthcare, manufacturing, corporate offices, warehouses, and other shared-device environments, charging carts help keep laptops, tablets, Chromebooks, scanners, and other mobile technology powered, protected, and ready for daily use.

Each slot or bay securely holds an individual device while connecting it to the cart’s integrated power management system. This allows organizations to efficiently charge an entire fleet of devices overnight or between shifts without complicated cable management or overloaded outlets.

In addition to charging, device carts provide enhanced security and mobility. Locking doors help protect valuable equipment when stored in classrooms, nurses’ stations, production floors, IT rooms, offices, or common areas. Heavy-duty casters and locking wheels allow the cart to move easily between rooms, departments, or workstations while remaining stable during use.

Whether supporting 1:1 student device programs, shared healthcare technology, warehouse scanners, mobile workstations, or enterprise IT deployments, charging carts simplify device management and help teams stay productive with fully charged equipment every day.

Find the right fit

For environments where devices remain in a fixed location, a Power Technologies charging cabinet may be a better fit. For individual device access and check-in/check-out applications, explore our secure charging lockers.

Buyer's Guide

How to choose the right charging cart

Not every cart fits every environment. Three factors narrow the choice quickly.

Capacity

Determine how many devices need to be stored and charged each day. Selecting the right size helps improve efficiency today while allowing room for future device growth.

Device Size

Confirm the cart can properly
accommodate your device size. A properly sized cart helps prevent device damage and makes daily access easier for users and IT teams.

Pre-wiring

Simplify deployment by including integrated power strips and organized charging cables already installed inside the unit. This reduces setup time, improves cable management, and creates a cleaner, more organized charging environment.

Why schools and IT teams choose Power Technologies

Smart charging that balances the whole cart

Power Technologies’ Smart Charging System detects which devices need charging first, then balances across all bays until every device reaches 100%. Every slot, fully charged — without manual intervention or overnight guesswork.

Power Technologies ecosystem
Accessories, replacement parts, and compatible add-ons are available off-the-shelf through our Anywhere Cart Parts Store, so a broken caster or missing cable doesn’t sideline a cart for weeks.
Pre-wired options cut deployment time

Our PRE-WIRED Series ships ready to load devices from the first minute it arrives on-site. For large rollouts where hundreds of carts are being deployed simultaneously, pre-wired models have helped IT teams cut cart commissioning time by more than half.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about charging carts

What is a charging cart and how does it work?

A charging cart is a lockable, wheeled storage unit that simultaneously charges multiple laptops, Chromebooks, or tablets from a single wall outlet. Devices are placed in individual bays connected to the cart’s built-in power distribution system. Power Technologies carts distribute current intelligently across all bays so every device reaches a full charge without tripping a standard circuits, even when all slots are full.

Power Technologies charging carts range from 15 to 45 bays. The PT-VERT-GLIDE-15 holds 15 devices and suits smaller classrooms or shared workspaces, while the AC-45 handles 45 devices for large-scale 1:1 deployments. Most K–12 school and enterprise buyers settle on 30- or 36-bay models such as the AC-LITE, PT-36, and AC-PLUS-T, which align with a standard classroom set.

Charging carts are mounted on casters so they can be wheeled between classrooms or departments, the right choice when devices travel with the users. Charging cabinets are stationary units intended to stay in one fixed location, offering a smaller footprint and easier wall-mount or countertop installation. If devices move around a building, a cart is the right choice; if they stay in a fixed lab or office, a cabinet is often more practical. For individual secure checkout, see our secure charging lockers.

Yes, every cart in the PRE-WIRED Series ships fully assembled with USB-C cables routed and secured inside each shelf. Simply plug the cart into a standard outlet and start loading devices; no routing, no cable ties, no labeling required. Non-pre-wired models require the IT team to route their own charging cables, which offers more flexibility for mixed-device environments or custom cables.

Charging carts are most common in K–12 schools, where they store and charge a classroom set of Chromebooks or laptops overnight and keep devices ready for first period. Beyond education, they’re widely used in healthcare facilities for shared tablet or laptop fleets at nursing stations, in corporate offices and conference centers that manage loaner device pools, in retail and warehouse environments where staff share handheld or tablet devices across shifts, and inhigher education computer labs and library lending programs. Any organization that owns more devices than it has dedicated desks, and needs every device charged and accounted for at the start of each day, is a natural fit for a charging cart.

Yes. Charging carts are well-suited to shift-based operations where the same devices rotate between multiple users across a day. At shift change, employees return devices to numbered bays and the cart begins charging immediately, so the next shift picks up fully charged devices without any staff intervention. For operations running tight shift windows, smart-charging models prioritize the devices that need the most charge first, reducing the risk of a partially charged device making it onto the floor.
