Challenge
Meridian Waste experienced significant challenges in managing its fleet of driver-issued mobile devices. A lack of standardized deployment and exchange procedures led to frequent device loss, disordered distribution, and significant financial losses from unreturned equipment by departing employees. Initial attempts with rudimentary “kindergarten lockers” and padlocks proved inadequate.
Solution
When implementing an initial fleet of SC Locker 24s into its waste management transfer station, drivers were given personalized locker assignments. RFID cards control access to assigned locker bays, ensuring drivers can only access their lockers and devices. Each locker is equipped with charging cords to ensure devices are readily available for the next use.
Results
Streamlining shared device management with the SC Locker system enhances communication by placing driver notifications directly inside their assigned lockers, preventing them from being overlooked while delivering significant cost savings. Meridian Waste has reduced monthly phone bills by approximately 76% and eliminated the overprovisioning of 500 mobile devices for a driver pool that only requires 50-70. The secure locker storage minimizes device loss and damage, reducing the need for costly replacements.
The implementation of SC Locker systems at Meridian Waste proves to be a highly effective solution for addressing the challenges of disorganized device management, security vulnerabilities, and financial inefficiencies. The system improves accountability, reduces costs, and enhances overall operational efficiency by providing a personalized, secure, and convenient device management solution for company-issued devices.
