Recognizing the limitations of its paper-based system, Frito-Lay strategically digitized its operations and quality assurance processes with tablets. The goal of this transition was to solve issues like delayed feedback and cumbersome compliance documentation during changeovers. Consequently, this shift to digital operations highlighted a new critical aspect: the need for effective tablet device management. Alongside the benefits of eliminating paper-based inefficiencies, Frito-Lay recognized that a well-defined approach to tablet management was essential for realizing the full potential of their digitized operations and quality assurance system.
The implementation rollout at their first facility involved deploying six SC-Locker-24 units to manage their fleet of approximately 150 iPad Mini devices. The SC-Lockers provide the following key features and benefits:
- Secure and Organized Device Storage: The lockers offer secure storage and charging for iPad devices, minimizing loss or damage.
- Streamlined Check-Out/Check-In Process: Employees can access the lockers using their existing RFID badges. This enables a quick and efficient self-service system for device retrieval and return.
- Shift-Based Locker Allocation: The system allows for the allocation of specific lockers to different shifts, ensuring device rotation and availability for each team.
- Enhanced Accountability: The check-out/check-in process provides a clear audit trail of device usage, fostering accountability among employees for the devices assigned to them.

The introduction of the SC-Lockers directly supports ongoing efforts to transition to a digital operations and QA process.
